I see all kinds of activism on this website for specific things, but it has come to my attention that while we may be narrowing our view to things like homophobes and misogynists, the truth is this.
Society is screwed up.
Allow me to explain. You could call me society’s image of perfect. I am nothing they shame. I am white. I am straight. I am skinny. I do not self-harm or dress like a slut. I am happy and healthy. I am cultured, very well-educated, and hygienic.
It would seem, to most, that society has nothing to bother me about.
People will find any reason to shame you.
I have been both fat shamed and accused of being anorexic, though my weight is perfectly average.
I have been called a ‘prude’ and a ‘stupid lesbian’ for wearing long pants and a hoodie, but truckloads of workmen still pull up beside me on the street to whistle and make eyes. I get countless comments about being plain and not dressing to show off my figure, but I can’t walk down the street without men giving me the look.
I have been shamed by gays for being straight, as if that made me a homophobe because I’m not a homosexual.
My lack of depression has been labeled as shallow. I was accused of ‘provoking’ a young man to stalk me, because I upheld a polite conversation with him. People call me selfish for not participating in gossip.
Despite the fact that it would appear that I don’t do anything wrong in society’s “golden book”, I am consistently harassed.
So you can fight against racism. You can show pride for your sexual orientation and fight for the rights of your gender. But no matter what, just know this.
Regardless of the issue, we are fighting because people can’t leave other people alone to do what they want with their own bodies and minds.
My fight is hardly a struggle at all. I have it the easiest of all. But while there are riots and parades for bisexuals and blacks, there are no events for people who just wanna do what they wanna do.
Stop fighting for only yourself and fight for everyone. Fight for justice all around.
LET ALL PEOPLE DO WHATEVER THEY WANT, AND THEN YOU WILL TRULY BE FIGHTING FOR EQUALITY.
I have some questions about the kind of gear I’ll be bringing, etc, are there any FV alumni that could answer my questions? I would appreciate it SO much
i am so honored and excited! i had myself convinced i wasn’t getting in omg
Idk, maybe acting like we’re not gonna get in saves heartbreak? I’m sure I’m not getting in though I mean c’mon, film/video is more competitive than the hunger games
I bet everyone at CSSSA are really artsy people. It’s funny because the arts kids that work so hard to stand out at school are probably gonna be like everyone else at CSSSA. Is my non-dyed hair, crap dancing, and lack of fashion sense the things that will stick out as weird?! Lol it’s like opposites…
